This firmware update provides enhancements for both Version 1 and Version 2 hardware. For Version 2 hardware, this firmware update improves 4G connectivity and support for the U600 3G/4G device.
Key Feature and Functionality Enhancements: The 4G functionality is only available on Version 2 hardware. To determine if you have a Version 1 or Version 2 hardware unit, remove the battery and review the label underneath. If your unit is Version 1 you will see "H/W Rev: 1.0" and if your unit is Version 2 you will see "H/W ver: V2.0".
This update is a two-step installation for Version 2 hardware only. Version 1 and Version 2 hardware will need to perform the firmware file update (steps 1-8). Only those with Version 2 routers should to proceed with the modem update following the firmware update. Please read the instructions below carefully to ensure a successful update. You can choose between installing via the web using the administrator pages for the router or by downloading to a USB thumb drive, both sets of instructions are provided below.
Installation Instructions: Installing via web browser
1. Download the firmware file below to your desktop (recommended for easy file location).
3. Enter your password (the default password is the last six digits of the MAC id found on the sticker on the back of your unit).
4. Click on the "Tools" tab and the "Firmware" menu.
5. Go to the section titled "Manually Upgrade Router Firmware" and click the "Choose File" button.
6. Select the file you downloaded to your desktop (default name is u_sphs.bin).
7. Click the "Upload" button.
8. The router will now read the file, error check it and load it. The router will reboot itself and then begin running the new firmware.
Only proceed with the next set of steps if you have Version 2 hardware. If you have Version 1 hardware, your update is complete.
9. Download the modem file below to your desktop (recommended for easy file location).

13. Go to the section titled "Manually Upgrade WiMAX Modem Driver File" and click the "Choose File" button.
14. Select the file you downloaded to your desktop (default name is u_modem.bin).
15. Click the "Upload button".
16. The router will read the modem file, error check it and load it. The router will reboot itself once complete.
Installation Instructions: Installing via USB memory stick
1. Download the firmware file below to your desktop.
2. If necessary, rename the firmware update file to "u_sphs.bin".
3. Copy the file to a USB thumb drive; do not place it into a folder but save it directly in the root. The thumb drive needs to be FAT or FAT32 formatted.
4. Power on the PHS300S and wait for the WLAN and POWER lights to turn solid green.
5. Plug in the USB thumb drive into the USB port on the PHS300S.
6. The MODEM light will come on and blink while reading the file off the USB thumb drive. When the MODEM light goes solid for 3 seconds or more, remove the USB thumb drive.
7. The router will read the file, error check it and load it.
8. The router will reboot itself once complete.
Only proceed with the next set of steps if you have Version 2 hardware. If you have Version 1 hardware, your update is complete.
